Companions

Followers that fight what you fight and give a perk. Twelve to unlock through tasks, each levelling to 10 and strengthening its perk at levels 5 and 10.

Companions are followers that fight beside you: like a pet that follows you around, but one that attacks whatever you are fighting and gives you a perk. You unlock each one by completing a task. Open the Companions manager from the worn-equipment tab to see your progress, summon one or swap. One companion is out at a time.

A companion's hits count as yours, so it never steals a kill. It levels from 1 to 10 as it fights, about 3,000 XP an hour in steady combat (level 5 takes about two hours and level 10 about twenty). Its max hit doubles by level 10, and its perk gets stronger at level 5 and again at level 10.

Boss kills are the kill counts in your collection log. Tasks you had already finished before companions arrived still count: those companions unlock the next time you log in.

Companions fight with you everywhere, including raids, the Inferno, the Gauntlet and solo bosses such as Vorkath, Cerberus, the Alchemical Hydra, the Kraken and the Corporeal Beast. Their hits follow the same rules as yours, so a boss that resists your attacks resists theirs too. They take no part at Zalcano, and a companion cannot attack a monster you lack the Slayer level for.

Settings > Gameplay > Companion options right-click only keeps a left-click on a companion or pet as Walk here. Its options stay in the right-click menu, so it never gets in the way in a crowd.
