About every 90 minutes a star crashes somewhere in the world, and everyone is told where. Mine it for stardust and Mining XP, then spend the stardust at the Star Shop in Falador.
A new star lands roughly every 90 minutes, give or take 15, at one of 26 sites, never the same site twice in a row. It stays for up to 60 minutes or until it is mined out. The sites are spread over both sides of the map, from Lumbridge Swamp, Varrock, Falador and Edgeville to Yanille, Ardougne, Seers', Brimhaven, Karamja and the Feldip Hills, including one at the edge of the Wilderness by Edgeville.
A star lands at size 6, 7, 8 or 9. You need 10 Mining per size: 90 for a size-9 star, 60 for a size 6. Each size holds 100 stardust, and when it is mined out the star shrinks one size, so smaller players can join as it wears down.
| Landing size | Chance | Mining needed |
|---|---|---|
| 9 | 20% | 90 |
| 8 | 25% | 80 |
| 7 | 30% | 70 |
| 6 | 25% | 60 |
Each successful swing gives 1 stardust and 32 Mining XP. Your chance per swing is 30% at the star's level, rising to 90% at 99. Your pickaxe sets how often you swing. The first player to mine a new star gets double stardust for their next 300.
The shopkeeper stands just west of the Mining Guild entrance in Falador.
