Wilderness & PvP

Who can attack you and where, how skulls work, what you keep when you die, where teleports stop working, and what PK points buy. Read it before you cross the Edgeville border.

The Wilderness is the lawless land north of Edgeville. Other players can attack you there, and when one of them kills you they can take what you drop. This guide covers who can fight whom, what you keep when you die, and how to get out.

Wilderness Levels

The Wilderness level starts at 1 on the southern border and rises by 1 every 8 steps north, up to 56 at the far north. It shows on screen while you're inside. The higher the level, the wider the range of players who can attack you.

Watch for the multi-combat icon: in those areas several players and monsters can attack you at once. They cover most of the eastern Wilderness, the bandit camp, the Revenant Caves and much of the far north. Every monster in the Wilderness is aggressive, whatever your combat level.

Who Can Attack You

Another player can attack you only if your combat levels are no further apart than the Wilderness level you're both in. At level 10 Wilderness, a level 70 player can fight anyone from level 60 to 80.

Outside multi-combat areas you can't attack someone who is already fighting another player. You can't log out while you're in combat either: that lasts 12 seconds after a fight with a player, or about 5 seconds after a monster.

Skulls

Attack a player who hasn't attacked you and you're skulled for about 12 minutes. Fighting back never skulls you. Attacking another new player restarts the timer, and it only counts down while you're logged in.

What You Keep When You Die

SituationItems kept
Not skulledYour 3 most valuable items
Not skulled, Protect Item on4 items
SkulledNone
Skulled, Protect Item on1 item

Untradeable items are always safe on top of that. Defenders, fire capes, fighter torsos, skillcapes, skilling outfits and pets go straight to your bank. Everything else drops where you died. A stack counts as one item, so only one arrow from a stack is kept. You respawn in Lumbridge.

A Hardcore Ironman who dies becomes a normal Ironman, and the whole server is told. See Game Modes.

Your Items After You Die

What you drop stays where you died. If a player killed you, they have it to themselves for the first minute. After that anyone nearby can see and take it for 10 more minutes, and then it disappears. If a monster killed you, the first minute is yours. An on-screen countdown shows how long is left.

Loot keys are optional. Right-click the chest just north of Edgeville bank to switch them on. With them on, a player you kill in the Wilderness drops a single key holding their items instead of a pile, and you claim the loot at the same chest.

Teleports and Teleblock

TeleportWorks up to
Spells, teletabs, most jewellery, ::homeLevel 20
Amulet of gloryLevel 30
Levers and obelisksAny level

The lever in Edgeville takes you to the Deserted Keep deep in the Wilderness, and the lever there leads to Ardougne. Obelisks send you to another obelisk at random.

Teleblock (Magic 85) stops every teleport, levers and obelisks included, for 5 minutes, or 2.5 minutes if you had Protect from Magic on when it hit. It stays on if you log out and ends when you die.

Prayer in PvP

Protection prayers block 40% of damage from other players, not all of it, once they've been on for a second and a half. A dragon scimitar special attack switches off its target's protection prayers for 5 seconds. Smite drains the target's Prayer by a quarter of the damage it deals.

PK Points and the PK Shop

Killing a player in the Wilderness earns PK points: 5 for each of your first five kills in a streak, then 5 more for every five kills after that, so kills 6 to 10 pay 10 each. Dying in the Wilderness ends your streak, and killing the same player again within 5 minutes pays nothing. PK points are doubled every weekend from Friday 17:00 to Sunday 20:00 UK time. Type ::pkpoints to check your balance.

Spend them at the PK Point Shop: trade the shopkeeper just north of Edgeville bank, or open it from the Information tab.
