Pick a game mode, find your way around Lumbridge and Edgeville, use the teleport portal and Information tab, and start the Task System.
Welcome to Ashmarch, the 2006 client carried well past 2006. This page is the short path through your first hours: what to pick, where things are, how to make money, and what can go wrong. Every heading links on to the full page for that topic.
You choose your mode when you first log in, and it sets your XP rate and drop-rate bonus for good. Regular is 5x XP. Lucky is 3x XP with +5% drop rate. Ironman, Hardcore Ironman and Ultimate Ironman play at 5x under ironman rules. Unreal and Ultra Ironman are 1x XP with +8% drop rate. Compare them on Game Modes.
| Mode | XP rate | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 5x XP | Standard gameplay with trading, banking and groups ("Regular" in game). |
| Ironman | 5x XP | Self-sufficient: no trading or outside help. |
| Hardcore Ironman | 5x XP | Ironman rules with one very dangerous life. |
| Lucky | 3x XP | Main rules with a 5% global drop-rate boost. |
| Unreal | 1x XP | Main rules with an 8% global drop-rate boost. |
| Ultimate Ironman | 5x XP | Ironman rules, and you cannot use the bank. |
| Ultra Ironman | 1x XP | Ironman rules with an 8% drop-rate boost. |
New accounts start in Lumbridge. ::home also takes you to Lumbridge (not from above level 20 Wilderness), and you respawn there when you die. Edgeville is the other hub you will use a lot: its bank, the loot key chest and the PK Point Shop are just north of the bank, and the Wilderness starts across the ditch.
| Location | What's there |
|---|---|
| Lumbridge | Where you start, respawn and ::home. Chickens, goblins, cows and a fishing spot nearby |
| Edgeville | Bank, loot key chest, PK Point Shop, the Wilderness border |
| Varrock | Banks, shops, Varrock East mine. There is no Grand Exchange here: trading is the Trading Post |
| Falador | White Knights' Castle, the Mining Guild, farming patches, and the Star Shop west of the Mining Guild |
| Draynor Village | Bank, willow trees, Master Farmer |
| Port Sarim | Boats to Karamja, Entrana, Pest Control, Lletya and Wintertodt |
| Camelot / Seers' Village | Bank, maple and yew trees, the Party Room |
| Al Kharid | Bank, warriors, the Duel Arena, and the ferry to Tempoross |
| Ardougne | Thieving stalls, and the boat to Brimhaven |
| Where | What it does |
|---|---|
| Teleport portal (next to the minimap) | Paid teleports in five tabs: Training, Cities, Skilling, Bosses, Minigames. You only pay if the teleport happens. See Teleports |
| Information tab | Task Journal, voting, donor ranks, the point shops (Vote, Donor, PK, Task, Skilling) and a drop table viewer |
| Side panel | Loot tracker, task info, collection log, farming timers, Slayer, and the Settings, Graphics and Keys screens |
| Bank booths and chests | Your bank, and the Trading Post |
| ::commands | Lists the player commands, such as ::players, ::playtime, ::wealth and ::stuck |
Ashmarch has no quest log to work through. The Task System gives you around 325 goals across Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite and Grandmaster, which complete themselves as you play and pay task points for the Task Shop. Three daily tasks and two weekly tasks are on top of that. See Task System.
If a friend already plays, ask for their referral code before you get going. Type ::refer followed by the code within your first two hours of play. A starter pack goes straight to your bank, and logging in on each of the next six days pays a Mystery box and 25,000 coins a day. Miss a day and the streak ends, but you keep what you already have.
| Way | What you get |
|---|---|
| Killing monsters | Coins and drops; see Drop System |
| Voting (::vote) | 5,000 coins and a vote point per vote, up to 6 votes every 12 hours |
| Levelling skills | Skilling points for each level and every 30 resources, spent at the Skilling Point Shop (outfits, Graceful, teleport tabs) |
| Tasks | Task points for the Task Shop |
| The Trading Post | Sell to other players (12% tax on the seller). Ironmen can't use it |
For proper methods see Money Making.
Outside the Wilderness you keep your 3 most valuable items when you die (4 with Protect Item). Untradeables and pets are always kept. Everything else drops in a death pile that only you can see for 10 minutes, then everyone can see it for about a minute before it disappears. In the Wilderness, a player who kills you owns that pile instead, and a skull means you keep nothing. Read Wilderness & PvP before you cross the ditch.
